Tours & Activities

There are many beautiful and historic sites to see around Alotau.  Why not take a full day trip to East Cape and visit the historic skull caves or to the Balagom River to visit one of the many WWII sites that there are here.  On the south side of the Bay there is a steep climb to visit the "da nawalai", the moon rocks.  They are the mysterious carvings from an unknown prior race predating the present nearby residents.

We have a Local Tour Guide who is available to take you wherever you may wish to go with packed lunches being supplies for whole day excursions.  Our Boat the MV Orina is available to take you out on the water so that you can discover the many beautiful reefs and islands in the scenic part of the world.  If you would like to cruise the coastal waters on an air-conditioned live-a-board 50ft vessel or do some scuba diving please visit  www.png-diveboat.com and follow the links.  Wayne will be more than happy to answer any queries you may have.

East Cape & the Skull Caves

East Cape is located on the eastern most tip of  Papua New Guinea, 90 minutes from Alotau.  While you are there you can go snorkeling, visit the local market and mingle with the local people, or visit the historic skull caves.  (pictured left)

East Cape has a Guest House which has been made from bush materials,  You can spend a night or two there to relax and escape from modern day life and get to know the local village people who you will find very friendly and hospitable.

Historic WWII Sites

Dotted all around Alotau are relics from WWII.  There are many memorials, bombed out barges. landing gear, tanks and other relics still remaining where they were left over 60 years ago.  You can snorkel around partially sunken barges and even swim in what remains of a dam built by the US Soldiers.

Waterfalls

The Gama River has two spectacular waterfalls which are quite close to town.  A day trip is recommended to give time to appreciate the jungle sites and sounds on the way up the river course.  The Gama Falls are visible from Alotau and are even more impressive when viewed from a boat approaching town.

Sea Trips

Our 33 ft vessel is ready to take you out to explore this wonderful region with it's lovely white beaches and exquisite coral reefs.  Overnight stays in village Guest Houses can be arranged and snorkeling gear can be organized for you if required.
